Pastor Calvin B. Haines Jr.
I was raised in the Metthodist tradition in Overlen United Methodist Church in Baltimore, Md. I am thankful my parents (both now deceased) were strong Christian believers, as is my sister, Nancy, my only sibling. In high school, I attended a small Christian & Missionary Alliance church where I gained a love and appreciation of Scripture and Bible study. I attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. After earning a master's degree in journalism at Northwestern University, I began teaching communications classes at Moody and Northwester n and started a master's program in church history and theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield in hopes of earning a Ph.D. I took classes at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. I discovered First United Methodist Church in Evanston, Illinois, and in that faith community I found a spiritual home and wonderful expressions of worshipu. I also rediscovered the Weslean tradition, focused on social justice as well as personal piety, which appeals to me a great deal! I cannot tell you how excited I am to lead a congregation as a United Methodist Elder - I love to preach, teach and engage in pastoral care, and I am eager to administer the sacraments. I firmly believe in cooperative leadership, and I am happy to work with you as we grow in faith and travel the disciple's journey together.

Mary is grateful for the opportunity to help FUMC provide a safe-sanctuary setting with educational resources for children and adults to grow in their faith and to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
